Dr Asief Ahmed

Dr Asief Ahmed is a dedicated and compassionate general practitioner with a rich background in diverse medical settings. Having earned his MBChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2016, he began his professional journey with an internship at New Somerset Hospital. Following this, Dr Ahmed deepened his skills in the Emergency Medicine department at Khayelitsha District Hospital and later as a locum in the same unit.

In a defining moment of his career, Dr Ahmed served the community at the forefront of the pandemic, treating COVID-19 patients at the Hospital of Hope stationed at CTICC in Cape Town. His journey later took him through Internal Medicine and the Emergency Room, culminating in establishing his GP facility in Woodstock, Cape Town. He currently practices from King’s Cross Hospital in Salt River, where he continues to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to the community.

The evident gaps in the health system, spanning across various demographics, inspired Dr Ahmed to delve deeper into public health. He is presently a candidate for a Masters of Public Health at the University of Johannesburg. His thesis, titled “The Knowledge, Attitude and Perceptions of Healthcare Users Towards National Health Insurance (NHI) in South Africa, ” aims to discern patients’ genuine expectations from the health system, paving the way for an improved and patient-centric approach.

Away from his medical pursuits, Dr Ahmed is a family man at heart. He cherishes moments with his wife, Dr Nurulain Mukadam, their adorable daughter, and two cats, Nobu and Gnocchi, and finds solace in the joys of home life. A baking enthusiast, he has a special fondness for creating delightful sourdough bread, pizza, and focaccia.
